Comment: Omaha class light cruiser, CL-8, commissioned in 1923. Was in Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked and escaped serious damage, and spent time in pursuit of the Japanese fleet. Spent some time in the war in defense of the Aleutians. Detroit was one of two ships present at both Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941 and at the signing of the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay.
