Comment: Transport ship AP-5, commissioned in 1921, carried men and cargo all over the world. Was en route to Manila when Pearl Harbor was attacked, and was diverted to Australia, since the Japanese promptly attacked the Philippines. Converted into a hospital ship in 1943 (USS Samaritan). Decommissioned in 1946 and later scrapped.
